Herman is the Director of the World Fish Migration Foundation. Through WFMD, Herman hopes to show the world that we all care about the future of the migratory fish from local to global. And that we show that something positive can be done about the challenges we are facing. Here is what Herman has to say about why WFMD is so important:
Migratory fish are beautiful animals, from the small sticklebacks to the big catfish. They are an essential part of river ecosystems. Migratory fish make incredible river journeys to fullfill their lifecycle, up to 5000 km. They also face many man made dangers, such as barriers and pollution. Their amazing stories and challenges need to be told to protect their existence and to make them thrive. For this we need to ensure that a balance between the use and protection of river ecosystems is achieved, from local to global.
