Joost is the overall project manager for World Fish Migration Day. This is what he has to say about WFMD, his role, inspirations and why WFMD is so important:
I am responsible for the overall coordination, finances and general preparations for WFMD 2016, this also includes the development of the educational Swimways poster. Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by nature, particularly al things aquatic. I find fish migration interesting because it is a very important but often forgotten link connecting rivers, seas, entire ecosystems and even people. By celebrating WFMD I would like to make a meaningful contribution to the restoration of rivers and aquatic systems on a global scale. To achieve real change, it is important for people from different parts of the world to get to know, learn from and inspire each other. These are amongst the first steps to create lasting improvements to the way we manage rivers and fish populations.
