World Fish Migration Day 2016 was a great succes. On the Kick-off celebration in Washington DC New Zealand officially started the celebrations with a movie of activities in their region. In total 450 events were organised in 63 countries by some 2000 participating organisations. The WFMD team along with the help of 63 supporting organisations and participants ensured extensive coverage in media and on social media. Media outings included articles in national newspapers and on internet as well as items on several radio and television programs. Over 70 million people were reached!

Participating organisations hosted a variety of events, varying from kayak trips and boats trips to dam removals, openings of fishways, school trips, conferences, and many more. These attracted large numbers of visitors.
