Fête des fleurs
Hello,
Every year, Moulin Neuf Park hosts a flower festival as part of a local community event. The park is well known to residents of the area; it features small ponds, animals, and green spaces, and once housed an old mill. Families appear to be the park’s primary visitors an a daily basis. Last year, the event attracted 5,000 people, with many horticultural stands in attendance.
As a member of the Pays d’Iroise Community of Municipalities, we participate in this event, and your initiative comes at just the right time for us. In fact, this year we are carrying out a river restoration project in this park. We will restore the river’s continuity, which has been interrupted since 1980 by the creation of an artificial pond. During this event, we hope to present this project, which will begin right after the flower festival, and highlight the need for rivers in good ecological condition. Our rivers here are home to trout, salmon, and eels. I don’t have a precise inventory for this particular river, but the area is part of the European Eel Protection Plan. It is therefore relevant to address the topic of migration during this event in order to raise awareness among local communities about the need to restore ecological continuity to this river.
This year the event is taking place on saturday 23th, sunday 24th and monday 25th of may. It has a little cost to support the local association in charge of the park’s maintenance.
