World Fish Migration Day – Spawning Run in Zurich

52 52 people viewed this event.

Do you know that Swiss rivers have more than 145 thousand barriers (such as dams, weirs, culverts ,etc.)? Do you know that these barriers can affect migratory fish? Do you know which species are affected? Are you aware of solutions that may help to minimize the impacts of these barriers? If you like rivers, fish and fishing, and want to learn more about these topics, join us for the ‘Spawning run’ and enjoy a fun and interactive learning experience.

The ‘Spawning run’ is a 5-km run/walk along the Limmat river in Zurich. The event will follow the migration of many fish that undertake upstream movements in rivers to reach spawning sites and reproduce. Nevertheless, migratory routes are disrupted by barriers and fish need to overcome them in order to continue their migration.

Next year, on May 21st 2022, we invite you to join us in a fun and informative event to learn about migratory fish, the inherent challenge to move in Swiss rivers, and the solutions to help fish thrive in human-altered ecosystems. For more information, visit our website:
