Open House- Highland Pond Dam Removal
The Highland Pond Dam was built in the mid-1800s for recreation but nearly 100 years later ownership was transferred to the Middlesex Land Trust, which decided to remove the dam to promote stream and fish restoration. The dam was removed in late 2025 and this will be the first opportunity for the general public to visit the transformed site and learn about the project. Project managers Sally Harold and Steve Gephard of RiverWork, LLC will be onsite to tell attendees about the goals of the project, why it was designed the way it was, what it took to remove the dam, and what to expect at the site in the coming years. Migratory species that will benefit from this project include American Eel, Sea Lamprey and river herring. The event is open to the general public free of charge, no registration is required. Good for families and birdwatchers.
