Rejuvenation of Dying Rivers
Many rivers are gradually losing their vitality due to multiple environmental and human-induced factors. Irregular and inadequate rainfall has reduced the natural flow of water in many river systems, while large-scale encroachment of rivers, rivulets, and floodplains has further restricted their natural course. In addition, excessive sand mining has damaged riverbeds and weakened the ecological structure of rivers. The closure or disappearance of wetlands, which normally act as natural water storage and filtration systems, has also contributed to the decline of river health. As a result, many rivers are facing reduced water flow, loss of biodiversity, and deterioration of water quality.
In this context, there is an urgent need to create awareness among the public regarding the importance of river conservation and restoration. Reviving rivers requires not only scientific interventions but also active participation from citizens, local communities, and stakeholders. Public awareness programs and community-based initiatives can play a crucial role in promoting responsible use of natural resources and protecting river ecosystems.
With this objective, an awareness event will be organized at the Seethanadi River to highlight the need for river revival and encourage active citizen participation in conservation efforts. The program aims to sensitize the community about the challenges faced by rivers and inspire collective action towards restoring and protecting these vital natural resources.
