Inspired by the Japanese tradition, our Community Engagement staff will work with Welsh primary school children to create beautiful painted koinobori ‘fish flags’. These will be displayed in the local community to celebrate World Fish Migration Day and get people talking about fish! Children will learn all about the incredible journey of the Atlantic Salmon, who travel all the way from their feeding grounds around the seas of Greenland, up the river Severn and into Welsh streams to spawn. They will also find out about the problems these fish face – from human-made barriers to over-fishing and pollution, and hear about the work of charities like the Severn Rivers Trust and the World Fish Migration Foundation who are leading the way to open up our rivers once more.
