Connected Rivers International Seminar
This will be the 7th international DRE seminar. This time we have chosen Portugal as the hosting country, because the process of dam removal is just getting started here. Through this event we hope increase the general commitment and knowhow around dam removal, and kick start new funding mechanisms and policy changes. The event aims at hitting the political agenda of Portugal to align with rest of Europe on being more active regarding the removal of fluvial barriers, in line with the Water Framework Directive, the Strategy for Biodiversity 2030 and the Green Deal, contributing to free up at least 25.000 km of rivers across Europe. One of the focus areas will be new funding opportunities and programmes in Europe and the USA and how they got started.
The event is hosted by the Portuguese NGO Associação Natureza Portugal in association with WWF (ANP|WWF), World Fish Migration Foundation (WFMF), Wetland International and TNC. We are expecting 200-250 visitors from all over Europe and USA. We will also live stream the event. The event is open to engineers, researchers, project managers, policy makers, students and social experts. The people attending work at river authorities, research centers, ministries, local governments, EU projects, companies and so on. The third day of the event will include a trip to visit a potential barrier to be removed. The seminar is part of the global World Fish Migration Day celebrations and one of the highlights will be the Portuguese premiere of the DAMBUSTERS documentary. We will ask for a small conference fee to cover the lunch and drinks during the event.
