This past Friday, the World Fish Migration Day 2020 Team hosted an informational webinar for our friends in Africa. It was attended by nearly 30 people in at least 10 different countries! We heard presentations from Kerry Brink of Reaching Rivers Consultancy and World Fish Migration Foundation, and Gordon O’Brien from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Kerry explained the basics of World Fish Migration Day—why we do it, who is involved, and how it works. Gordon, who has hosted World Fish Migration Day events since the beginning, described the various events he has created and urged others to join in on May 16th, 2020. We ended the webinar with a question and answer session and were blown away by participants’ interest and willingness to get involved in the movement! We are thrilled to have more African celebrations taking place this year and hope this leads to even more freshwater conservation efforts there.
