The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme for this year is Sustainable Livelihoods, with specific focus on certain sectors: agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and sustainable tourism.
The WFMD2016 and IBD will be cooperating with each other. Participants of the WFMD are invited to include the International Day for Biological Diversity in the communication as well. This is not obligatory. We see it as an opportunity to increase the impact of events. This is especially applicable if your events are focused at emphasizing communities whose livelihoods depend on fisheries (one of the IBD subthemes).
