CEPTA, with jurisdiction throughout the national territory, is the specialized national center of ICMBio responsible for carrying out scientific research and management actions for the conservation and recovery of threatened species, especially continental fish, and for monitoring the biodiversity of Brazilian hydrographic basins, with emphasis on the impacts of projects and other human activities, as well as assisting in the management of federal Conservation Units, through studies and monitoring for the conservation and sustainable use of their ichthyofauna;
