During a period of five years, we will research how the river Oude IJssel is being used by fish, for migratory species like ide and eel, but also for more stationary species. One of these species is the European catfish, that grows to monstrous sizes in this relatively small river. The knowledge we gain during the research can be used to optimize the river for the fish species that belong here, for instance by habitat improvement and solving migration issues.
In this project we try to reach as many people as possible, and try to get these people involved in the research. For instance, we invite people from the region to help us catch the fish, which we will give acoustic responders.
On the 25th of may we have a catch event, where anglers try to catch as many catfish and asp as they can, after which we will tag the fish. We will show how we catch the fish, how the tagging is done and also demonstrate the way acoustic telemetry works.” Location: Rietvoorn
