In celebration of World Migratory Fish Day, the release of over 40,000 native fish into the Paraná River will be followed by an essay contest at Maria Dáurea Public School in the rural area of Castilho, São Paulo, Brazil. Approximately 150 students will participate by writing essays on the importance of preserving native fish species in the Paraná River, particularly focusing on the Piracanjuba, an endemic fish from the Prata Basin that is at risk of extinction. The essays will also address the impacts of dam construction, predatory fishing, and economic activities on the pollution of the second-largest river in Latin America.
