Swim like a sturgeon
The student and early career subunit of the North American Sturgeon and Paddlefish society is hosting a month long event followed by a virtual gathering to highlight the importance of free-flowing rivers for sturgeon and paddlefish species. For one month we are hosting a “swim like a sturgeon” event where members of our community and the public can take part in doing any kind of movement (run, walk, hike, swim, kayak, bike, etc) for a certain distance. We will have different tiers of movement distances associated with migratory distances of sturgeon and paddlefish species. There is a Strava group that can be joined to track distances.
Additionally, in the last week of May to celebrate everyones movement accomplishments and discuss the importance of free-flowing rivers we will be hosting a virtual webinar run by the student and early career subunit. This webinar will highlight different sturgeon/paddlefish species and impacts of free-flowing rivers or dams on populations.
