On the occasion of the International Fish Migration Day, the Nature School of Neris Regional Park on Sunday, May 22, 2022, invites children aged 6-13 years and their parents “What does beautiful Bražuolė whisper?” The march was created with children aged 6-13 in mind, but the content is also suitable for adults.

The aim of the hike is to allow children to be little researchers of nature and to get acquainted with the world of bražuolė stream and its coastal forests in an interesting, interactive and moody way. This time, as a park guide Saulius, we will travel to the surroundings of the Bražuolė stream towards its confluence with Neris. She is a real beauty! The river is very clear, natural, almanti in a wooded valley. We will stop at the place where a few years ago the first dam in Lithuania was demolished, which prevented the successful spawning of salmon coming from the Baltic Sea every autumn. We will talk about why dams cannot be built in such flowing streams, and how salmon have enough strength to swim against the current for more than 400 kilometers!

We will also visit the old coastal forests. We’re going to do tree bark prints. We will talk about sea eagles that nest in these neighborhoods and discuss why it is so important to preserve them. We will also talk about the rare plants of the coastal swamps and meadows of Bražuolė, whose scientists have found more than 300 species here and as many as 20 of them are listed in the Red Book of Lithuania.

IMPORTANT! Take care of comfortable shoes! Also, do not forget to bring warm tea and snacks – we will make a slightly longer stop in the middle of the hiking route.
