Visit of the “New Poutès” hydroelectric dam, exemplary for its ecological refurbishment for salmon migration!
The hydroelectric dam of Poutès is built on the Allier River, the main tributary of the Loire river, one of the last great wild rivers of Europe. The dam, located at the gates of the salmon spawning grounds, has caused the near disappearance of the Atlantic salmon.
After 20 years of debate between EDF, NGOs and local representatives, an exemplary solution has finally been found to restore the ecological continuity ! The work has just been completed: the dam has been partially removed and each year, the gates will be completely opened during the 3 months of salmon migration.
Join us on site at the Poutès dam on May 21 for a visit!
