We Are River People!

Friends of the Presumpscot River, Discover Downtown Westbrook, Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, Portland Trails, and Trout Unlimited invite you to a World Fish Migration Day celebration at Riverbank Park in Westbrook, 12:30 to 3:30 PM Eastern Time.

No registration needed, just drop by anytime!

This year we are hosting a rock fish art class with a powerful purpose. Join us to create your own colorful fish on a brick fragment collected during a cleanup of the former Saccarappa Dam site, as we transform remnants of an industrial structure that once blocked fish passage into a colorful, living memorial to the fish that are returning to the river.

We will install our fish along the Portland Trails path near Saccarappa Falls. Come back to visit yours, or invite friends and family to walk the trail and find them through the migration season.

We are also celebrating an exciting milestone: the Maine Department of Marine Resources is planning to stock fish at Mallison Falls dam this spring, once the fish are big enough. Our World Fish Migration Day is held in honor of this powerful sign of the river’s revival.

Our afternoon will also include a guided one-mile walk that kicks off at 2pm as we head to the waterfall for our rock fish installation ceremony. Learn about ongoing efforts to restore and rewild the Presumpscot, a river that is being freed.

As a bonus, Presumpscot Regional Land Trust is hosting a guided alewife migration walk at Mill Brook Preserve from 10 AM to 12 PM. Space is limited and registration is required for that walk. Find more info on the alewife walk at PRLT.org
