Vanishing rivers: migratory fish in the coastal rivers of Venezuela. The small coastal rivers to the Caribbean Sea in Venezuela contain diverse migratory fish species that play an important role in aquatic biological cycles, maintaining biodiversity, and the local bioeconomy. Furthermore, these fish are good biological indicators of the health of aquatic ecosystems. However, migratory fish and coastal rivers are threatened by the construction of dams and roads, pollution from urban and agricultural effluents, deforestation of riparian forests, the introduction of species, and indiscriminate fishing.

Participate with us in this virtual event on the protection and conservation of rivers and migratory fish, on aquatic corridors and protected areas, habitat restoration and education for sustainability. Faculty and students from the UCLA Museum of Natural Science will discuss mangroves and riparian forests, amphidromous and introduced species, and watershed protection to ensure the safety of migratory fish
