– Freshwater mussels have a fascinating life cycle. Some species release tiny larvae that attach to fish using lures that look like small fish or insects. These fish carry the mussels upstream, helping them spread through the river system.
– Migratory fish like alewives play an important role in healthy river ecosystems, helping support species like freshwater mussels.
